The short story by Joseph Conrad, which was and inspiration for Francis Ford Coppola to direct ‘Apocalypse Now,’ is still very current. In fact, the attempts to build a totalitarian empire and exploit the weak are still the reality of many regions worldwide. While commenting on the play, the creators say that ‘until the political systems club themselves to death, they are surprisingly well negating their own agony. Whether we like it or not, the activities undertaken against the systems’dominant values may expose their barrenness. To make it happen, you have to stop colonizing the reality
so as to perceive its true form.’ Monika Strzępka and Paweł Demirski are one of the most eminent Polish representatives of the engaged theatre. Their status is proven by numerous awards, for instance the ‘Polityka Passport, Warranty of Culture’ for the play ‘The Battle of Warsaw 1920’ or individual awards of the ‘Divine Comedy’ International Theatre Festival in Krakow.
