Gregers Werle returns home after few years and he meets and old friend – Hjalmar Ekdal. He quickly realizes that Hjalmar’s life, his family and all the reality in which he’s stuck, is „built on a lie” from which he – Gregers can try to get him out.

Ibsen, as he claimed, was cut out for asking questions, not for formulating answers. His art intertwines threads and symbols, poses questions about life attitudes, which allow to avoid confrontation with the world or another human being. It undermines the attempts of self-determination of the characters, the attempts that we can also observe in today’s world, which we are probably undertaking ourselves.
