Following her death, Kora finds herself at the gates of heaven, where Three Marys await her. Highly ornate. Picture-perfect: Our Lady of Częstochowa, Our Lady of Fátima, and Our Lady of Guadalupe. Brought before a grotesque Last Judgment, Kora revisits her earthly memories through songs and confessions. At last, she has the chance to tell her life story to those who had the power to make it better… The spectacle is a story of a woman, an artist, a daughter, and a mother; a tale of Poland, religion, the system, and illness. It is a fairytale-like narrative of love, longing, helplessness, and grief.

The Three Marys symbolize three different attitudes and three distinct spheres of life—the three Theological Virtues. Our Lady of Częstochowa represents Faith: the Church, Poland, politics, and the system. Our Lady of Fátima embodies Hope: naivety, purity, childhood, and longing. Our Lady of Guadalupe stands for Love: true, free love, music, madness, and an indigenous, trance-like state.

The production features Maanam's greatest hits, performed by Katarzyna Chlebny.

The encounters with the Three Marys are punctuated by phenomenal performances from Chlebny, who breathes new life into Maanam’s songs. The artist flawlessly captures Kora’s voice, her distinctive mannerisms, and facial expressions. It is a truly extraordinary spectacle. One couldn't help but feel that some of the lines were being sung by Jackowska herself.

In terms of content, Chlebny counts on self-awareness, a sense of detachment, and the audience’s intellect. In terms of form, the director opts for showmanship, but entirely free of kitsch. One can deeply feel a profound respect for the phenomenal figure of Kora—depicted as a vibrant, tolerant woman, but above all, someone just like us: imperfect. That is precisely why it is an absolute must-see.
