TEATR POLSKA 2023

The Performance of the play „Free Bodies” (concept and choreography by Marta Ziółek) as a part of Teatr Polska 2023 Programme.

FREE BODIES is a trance-like journey that begins with rebellious, trickster-like gestures and a theatre of memory of individual bodies. The dance circle becomes a space for moving emotions and a celebration of the power of bodies and the power over bodies. The hybrid stage form opens up to the grotesque, and tragedy and comedy at the same time. By indulging in a whirlwind of social dances, bodies are transformed in a communal and healing experience. To the sound of live percussion music played, FREE BODIES thunder, vibrate and resonate. Immersed in the intensity of the choreography they surrender to the space, expand the boundaries of their own skin, and increase their scale. FREE BODIES activate the political power of physical mobilisation flowing from loins and drops of sweat. To the rhythm of trance percussion, we invoke a dance that haunts and transforms our bodies. Our individual demonic shadow comes together in a collective gathering through collective movement frightens us.We are in the openness of experience, in stirring and desire, in the sudden change of facial expression and in the inflection of language and voice. Laughter and crying come to resemble each other. Ultimately, we choose laughter, an extravagant, irrational and unrestrained force that, as Nietzsche wrote „plays with all that was hitherto called holy, good, untouchable, divine."

The aim of the project TEATR POLSKA is to make the access to the best performances of Polish theatre easier for inhabitants of towns where there is no institutional theatre. The program popularizes theatre art and works for neutralizing economic barriers in access to culture, especially in the towns far away from big theatre centers.

The inspiration for this program were theatrical tours organized in the interwar period by Juliusz Osterwa and Mieczyslaw Limanowski's Reduta, which brought the public closer to the most important achievements of Polish theater of that period.

In 2023 the 15th edition of Teatr Polska Programme is organized. For this year's anniversary edition, the Artistic Steering Team qualified 15 performances for the second stage:
